Congratulations!!!
WELCOME NEW RESIDENTS!
New FaesClass of 2016 Resident/ Fellow
Two of our faculty members were featured in the Deans Newsletter for
their accomplishments/ efforts:
o Congratulations to Joy L. Hawkins, MD, professor and vice chair of
education in the Department of Anesthesiology, who received the
Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology Distinguished Service
award at the group’s annual meeting in Boston last week. The award
recognizes exceptional service to the specialty of obstetric anesthesia
and for contributions to the Society, such as serving on the board of
directors and society committees and presenting at annual meetings.
o Congratulations to Paul E. Wischmeyer, MD, professor of anesthesiology
and pediatrics, who was invited to deliver the Jeff Silverstein Memorial
Lecture on Humanism in Medicine at the American Delirium Society
annual meeting last week. This lecture recognizes contributions to
humanism in medicine and Paul spoke about his experience both as a
patient and a physician. Paul noted that he has had more than 20 major
operations since childhood and he addressed what patients wish their
physicians knew.
Our new residents start in the Operating Room on JULY 8
th
. 9
residents will start at UCH, 3 at Denver Health and 3 at the
VA. There will be a lot of new faces this month and
throughout the year as residents rotate through different sites
so please take the time to welcome them to the Department
and the Anesthesia team. There are face sheets with pictures
of all the new residents around the ORs for your reference.

CAA/CRNA “White Star”
Janine helped me GREATLY on a very busy GI day. She had a great
attitude (as she always does) and helped me with preops, turning over
rooms, bringing pts to and from the room, etc. She is such a hard
worker and made my 13 cases go so much smoother!
Janine is usually willing to switch shifts whenever she can and I greatly
appreciate it! She always has the most positive attitude and a great
work ethic!
May White StarRuss Freeman
For all of her work with Angel Tree. Cathie has
worked with the Salvation Army for many years
to help fulfill Christmas lists for children. She
does a great job and never is recognized for her
efforts. Thank you athie!
White star nom for Russ Freeman who came to give me a lunch break and ended up helping out
during a massive transfusion.
I would like to nominate Russ Freeman for the white star award for being an excellent team
player. I was scheduled in the TACS room on May 20th. Russ helped me package patients for
transport to the OR, set my room up inbetween cases, and even stayed to help get cases
started. He was a tremendous help making the day go by smoothly, an excellent resourse, and
saved me from pulling out my facial hair all day. My beard and I thank him.
CLINICAL UPDATES:
New Anesthesia Carts are in the works. There will be an upcoming
demo day of a potential new cart, please pay attention to email
announcements and plan to come check out the cart.
There is a new process for controlled substances when the patient
receives a pre-op epidural or peripheral nerve block. Please see Dr.
Jameson’s email for details.
With turnover of residents, fellows and staff, there are many new
phone numbers and the printed cards are outdated. All of the new
contact information is updated on the Virtue website phonecard/
phonecard app.
As we prepare for JHACO visit, please remember to follow correct
practice for labeling medication, hand hygiene, cleaning equipment,
etc.
Please be cognizant of patient environments and keep conversations at
a reasonable volume and maintain HIPPA privacy.
